Gutter clearing is priced by the run of guttering and how it is reached. As budgeting guidance, a standard house commonly falls in the region of 60 to 150 pounds for a clear out from ground level using high reach equipment, with larger, taller and commercial runs above that.
Adding fascia and soffit washing to the same visit costs less than booking it separately, because the setup and access are already paid for. On many properties gutter clearance can be combined with roofline cleaning in one visit.
How often gutters need clearing
Once a year is the baseline for most buildings. Twice a year is sensible where trees overhang, with the main visit after leaf fall in late autumn and a lighter check in spring once blossom and seed have passed.
Commercial buildings with long runs, internal gutters or valley gutters are usually inspected more often, because a blockage in those positions can put water inside the building rather than down the outside of it.
Signs you have left it too long
Blocked gutters advertise themselves if you know what to look for.
- Water spilling over the edge during rain instead of reaching the downpipe
- Dark staining running down the wall or render below the gutter line
- Plants growing out of the gutter run
- Sagging brackets or a gutter line that is no longer level
- Damp patches inside near the eaves
Why high reach equipment helps
High reach equipment lets much of the work be carried out from ground level, which is faster and avoids leaning ladders against the roofline. It also means the operator can move along a run steadily rather than repositioning a ladder every couple of metres, and awkward positions over conservatories or planting become straightforward.
Roofline cleaning at the same time
White fascias and soffits collect traffic film, algae and general airborne dirt, which shows as dark streaks long before the plastic is actually damaged. Washing them while the gutters are being cleared deals with dirt, cobwebs, algae and traffic film in a single visit and makes the whole roofline look maintained.
