Conservatory Roof Cleaning for Glass and Polycarbonate

Conservatory roof cleaning is for homes where only the roof needs attention: green algae on the panels, moss along the glazing bars or leaves trapped in the ridge. OOR External cleans glass and polycarbonate roofs from the ground or a safe position, never by standing on the roof.

Professional Conservatory Roof Cleaning

A conservatory roof is one of the hardest surfaces to reach at home, and one of the easiest to damage. Polycarbonate scratches and can crack under weight, and sealed glass units have seals that dislike high pressure. The roof is therefore cleaned with soft brushes and a gentle rinse, chosen for the panel type. If you want the frames, sills and side glazing done as well, that is the full conservatory clean on its own page.

  • Roof panels only, no weight on the roof
  • Glass and polycarbonate handled differently
  • Moss cleared from glazing bars and ridge
  • Small conservatory gutter cleared of debris

Polycarbonate roofs

Multiwall polycarbonate is light and flexible, so it is easily marked. Abrasive pads and strong pressure are avoided. A soft brush and a suitable cleaning solution lift the algae, and the panels are rinsed. Green growth that has got inside the channels at the panel ends cannot always be reached from outside, and that is mentioned if it is visible.

Glass conservatory roofs

Glass is harder wearing but the seals around each unit are not. The roof is cleaned at low pressure with a soft brush, and the glazing bars and end caps are worked along to remove the dark lines of moss and dirt that collect there. Self-cleaning glass coatings are treated with extra care.

Moss, leaves and the roof gutter

Moss on a conservatory roof usually starts along the glazing bars and the ridge, where debris settles. Leaves from nearby trees gather at the lower edge and block the small gutter, which then overflows onto the patio. That gutter is cleared as part of the roof clean.

Why conservatory roofs go green

A conservatory roof sits low, often beside the house wall or under trees, so it stays shaded and damp. The shallow pitch means rain does not wash it as well as a steep roof, and leaves and pollen sit on the panels. Algae grows on that film and turns the roof green, cutting the light coming in. North-facing conservatories tend to show it first.

The conservatory roof and the house roofline

If the main house gutters drain onto the conservatory, or the fascias above it are marked, those can be cleaned in the same visit with high-reach equipment. It saves arranging access twice and stops runoff from a dirty gutter landing on a freshly cleaned roof.

Getting a conservatory roof quote

Send a photograph of the roof, ideally from an upstairs window, and say whether it is glass or polycarbonate if you know. Mention any trees overhead and how the garden is reached. A free written quotation follows with the method for your panels.

Conservatory Roof Cleaning FAQs

What should I use to clean a conservatory roof?
A soft brush, a mild cleaning solution and plenty of rinse water. Avoid abrasive pads and high pressure, especially on polycarbonate. Never stand or kneel on the roof.
Can you clean a polycarbonate conservatory roof?
Yes. Polycarbonate is cleaned gently with soft brushes and a low-pressure rinse, because it scratches and can crack under weight.
Do you get on the conservatory roof?
No. The roof is cleaned from the ground or a safe position with reach equipment, so no weight is put on the panels.
Is this the same as conservatory cleaning?
No. This service covers the roof panels only. If you also want frames, sills and side glass cleaned, book the full conservatory clean.
