Height of the roofline
Height is the biggest single factor. Fascias and soffits on a bungalow can often be reached comfortably from the ground with pole equipment. On a two storey house more reach is needed, and three storeys or more may require different equipment or specialist access that is discussed and priced before work starts.
Mixed heights add time too. A house with a single storey extension, a two storey main roof and a dormer has several rooflines, each approached differently. Photographs from each side help show this before a visit.
Access around the property
Access affects how quickly equipment can be moved along the roofline. Open gardens and driveways are straightforward, while narrow side passages, steep slopes, terraced rears reached only through the house, and conservatories beneath the eaves all slow the work. Parking close to the property also matters on busy streets.
Anything below the roofline that needs protecting, such as a glass roof, delicate planting or a pond, adds care rather than difficulty. Mention these at the outset so the plan allows for them.
Length of the run
The total length of fascia and soffit is what is actually being cleaned. A detached house with fascias on all four sides has far more than a mid terrace with only front and back. Bay windows, porches and gable ends add sections that are easy to forget when describing a property.
Where only the front is wanted, for example before selling, the scope can be reduced. Cleaning one elevation alone can leave a visible contrast with the sides, and that is worth considering before choosing.
Condition of the uPVC
Lightly dirty white uPVC responds quickly. Heavily stained fascias with black streaks, green algae under the soffit or years of traffic film take longer and may need a second application. Old uPVC that has turned chalky or yellow will clean up but may not return to bright white, and that is discussed beforehand.
Painted timber fascias need gentler handling. Flaking paint will not survive vigorous washing, and cleaning can reveal where redecoration is overdue. The uPVC, fascia and cladding guide covers the chalky surface issue in more detail.
Combining with a gutter clean
Fascias, soffits and gutters sit together on the roofline, so cleaning them in one visit usually makes better use of time than separate trips. The gutter is cleared first so debris does not fall onto freshly washed fascia, then the outside of the gutter and the fascia board are washed, then the soffits underneath.
Adding the gutter exterior and downpipes to a fascia clean is common because the outer face of the gutter is often the dirtiest part. The gutter cleaning cost guide explains the factors that drive that side of the job.
Getting an accurate quotation
To get a reliable quotation, send your postcode, photographs of each elevation including the roofline, and a note of any conservatory, extension or access restrictions. Say whether you want gutters cleared at the same time. A free quote can then set out each element so you can choose.
Domestic work is normally within about fifteen miles of the Dover base, with commercial and managed property quoted more widely across Kent. Please check your postcode if you are further away.
