Number and layout of panels
The size of the array is the first factor. A small domestic array of a few panels takes far less time than several rows on a commercial roof. Layout matters too: panels split across two slopes, or arranged around roof windows and vents, take longer to reach than a single neat block.
When you ask how much to clean solar panels, count the panels from a photograph and note whether they are on one slope or several. That detail alone makes quotes easier to compare.
Height, pitch and access
A ground-mounted array or one on a low garage roof is simple to reach. Panels on the main roof of a two or three storey building need reach equipment, and anything needing specialist access is discussed and priced before work starts. Steep pitches, conservatories below and narrow side passages all affect how the array is approached.
Commercial roofs are assessed for covering, access and site activity. Fragile fibre cement sheets and roof lights near an array change the plan entirely.
How dirty the panels are
Dust and light film wash off quickly. Baked-on bird droppings, lichen along the lower frame and salt film near the coast take more time. Panels that have not been cleaned for many years may need more than one pass. OOR External cleans panels with soft brushes and clean water, and the condition of the glass shapes how long that takes.
Add-ons that change the price
Gutter clearance can be combined with panel cleaning, especially where nesting debris or moss has collected below. Roof cleaning can also be combined so the roof and the array are dealt with in one visit.
Ask for each item to be listed separately in the quote. That way you can decide which parts you need now and which can wait.
Comparing solar panel cleaning rates
Some companies quote a rate per panel, others a figure for the visit. A low per-panel rate may exclude access or a minimum charge, while a visit price may include gutter checks. Compare what is included rather than the headline number. Check that the method suits the glass: harsh brushes, abrasive pads and strong detergents can harm coatings and may affect your warranty.
Before booking, find the installer or panel paperwork. Care instructions there take priority over general advice.

How often cleaning affects the cost over time
A first clean on panels that have been left for years usually takes longest, because droppings, lichen and film have built up together. Later visits on a regular cycle tend to be quicker, as there is less to remove. How often an array needs cleaning depends on its tilt, nearby trees, birds and how close the property is to the coast or to farmland and roads. Rather than booking on a fixed calendar, many owners compare the output shown on their inverter or app over similar sunny days, and arrange a clean when it drops in a way the weather does not explain.
Getting a quote for your panels
Send OOR External the postcode, photographs of the array from the ground and a note of any birds nesting underneath. Jordan can then give a free written quote for the panels you have. If you are still deciding whether cleaning is needed at all, the guide on whether solar panels need cleaning covers how to judge it, and the how-to guide explains what you can safely do yourself.
