Tilt affects how deposits collect
An inclined panel generally sheds water more readily than a shallow one, but that does not mean rainfall removes every deposit. The lower edge can collect material washed down from the glass, while a flatter array may retain more dirt in places where runoff is slower.
Compare the actual appearance rather than assuming one panel angle guarantees a particular interval. If the glass stays reasonably clear between inspections, another clean may not yet be useful. If dirt persists, the question becomes what is adhering and how access can be arranged safely.
Coastal exposure changes the pattern
Wind near the coast can carry salt film as well as ordinary airborne dirt. Rainfall may reduce some deposits, but the effect depends on exposure and the material on the glass. An array behind a parapet can experience different washing and wind patterns from an open pitched roof nearby.
Look for repeated film after periods of coastal weather rather than adopting a timetable intended for a sheltered inland roof. Send photographs from safe ground if the pattern is uncertain. A postcode and a description of exposure help Jordan discuss the enquiry.
Farmland dust and seasonal changes
Fields can contribute dust during dry conditions and agricultural activity, while pollen is another seasonal influence. These deposits do not necessarily accumulate at an even rate through the year. A period of heavier soiling may justify attention even if the panels stayed clear previously.
Do not interpret every change in generation as a cleaning reminder. Sunshine, temperature, shade and system operation also matter. Monitoring can prompt a closer look, but an unexplained fault indication belongs with the installer rather than an automatic wash.
Trees affect more than the glass above them
Nearby trees can contribute pollen, leaves and sticky material, while also casting shade. Cleaning removes deposits but cannot remove shade caused by the position of the tree. The two may occur together, so describe both when asking for advice.
Observe which parts of the array are affected. A few panels beside a branch may behave differently from the open rows further away. There is no reason to assume every panel on a building needs the same attention at exactly the same time.
Bird activity can make attention more urgent
Adhered droppings can remain when loose dust has washed away. Repeated deposits beneath a favourite perch are therefore a more useful trigger than elapsed time alone. The bird-droppings guide explains that problem without turning it into a generic cleaning schedule.
If birds appear to nest beneath the array, cleaning the glass does not resolve nesting. Seek advice from a suitable wildlife specialist. Do not lift panels or disturb nesting activity while trying to work out when the next clean should happen.
Build a monitoring habit rather than a promise
Use safe visual checks and comparable photographs to see how quickly deposits return. Where a monitoring system is available, review its information with allowance for changing weather. A clean should be considered when observations suggest external soiling, not presented as a cure for every performance concern.
Keep a simple note of when cleaning took place and what conditions followed. Over time that is more useful for your building than an interval copied from another roof. It can show whether a particular season repeatedly produces the deposits that prompted attention.
Where frequency advice ends
The separate guide on whether panels need cleaning explains the reasons to intervene. The safe-cleaning guide explains the method. This page focuses on timing so those decisions are not repeated with slightly different wording. Refer to the panel manufacturer's instructions before adopting any maintenance plan.
OOR External uses soft brushes and clean water for suitable panel cleaning, with access assessed before booking. Include the postcode, the panel layout and the deposits you can see. Domestic addresses farther from Dover should check coverage first; commercial arrays are quoted more widely across Kent.
